Steve Decker will enter his first year in the Softball program as the Varsity Assistant after serving as a member of the baseball program from 2008-2016 at the Freshman (’08-’09) and JV (’10-’16) levels . He is currently the head coach for Boy’s Modified Volleyball and Girl’s JV Basketball during the fall and winter seasons.

Coach Decker attended Sage College of Albany and graduated magna cum-laude with a B.S. (Physical Education) in 2007. He completed his M.S. in Sports Coaching from the United States Sports Academy in 2014 with highest honors. He has been teaching Physical Education at Karigon Elementary School since 2011 and a teacher at Shenendehowa since 2009.

Coach Decker spends his spare time with his family and engaging in sports himself including basketball, golf, bowling, and cycling.  He currently resides in Round Lake with his wife Michele, daughter Jocelyn, and son Stephen.

     During his second season at the helm, Chris Farquharson led the Lady Plainsmen to a 13-3 record in the Suburban council and 19-4 overall while finishing the season in the Section 2 final. Shen softball was ranked as high as #1 and finished the season being ranked 11th in New York State.  As a team, the plainsmen hit .425 with 31 HRs, 48 doubles and ended with a slugging % of .654.  The pitching staff combined for 6 shut outs. Two players were named to 2nd team All-State and 6th team All-state. One player received Suburban Council Player of the Year, three players received 1st team all suburban infield honors and 1 player received 2nd team all-suburban outfield honors.  One Senior went on to play softball at Division 1 Albany, 6 players went on to Division 3 schools and 1 is playing at a Community College

In his first season at the helm, Chris Farquharson led the Lady Plainsmen to their first Section 2 AA title since 2012.  The team finished 15-1 in the Suburban Council and 23-3 overall as well as being ranked 7th in New York State.  As a team, the Lady Plainsmen hit .385 with 25 home runs and a slugging percentage of .569.  The pitching staff combined for 7 shut outs including three in the sectionals and had a combined ERA of 2.39.   Two players were named to 2nd team All state and 4th team All-state.  Two players received 1st team all suburban honors and 2 players received 2nd team all-suburban honors.

Last year in the classroom, 13 of the Lady Plainsmen were recognized as scholar athletes and Shen Softball received the scholar athlete Team Award for achieving academic excellence while participating in varsity level athletics with a team average of 95.

Prior to his Varsity appointment Coach Farquharson led the Junior Varsity softball team for 14 seasons at Shenendehowa.  His teams have comprised a record of 264 -18 (.936 winning percentage) with four undefeated seasons in 2000, 2007,2008 and 2014 and achieved an overall .334 batting average over those fourteen seasons.  Under Coach Farquharson’s leadership the Junior Varsity won the Mudville tournament in 2002, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008.

Coach Farquharson was a 4 year starting shortstop at East Catholic High School in Connecticut.  In his senior year he was an all-conference infielder as well as an academic all-state player.  In 1995 and 1996 Coach Farquharson played 3rd base and pitched for the Red Foxes at Marist College.

Coach Farquharson graduated from Marist College in 1999 receiving his degree in Psychology/Special Education and Elementary Education.  He also earned his School Administration degree from the University of Albany in 2004.  Coach Farquharson is currently in his 17th year as a 4th grade teacher and is also the MST coordinator for Skano Elementary. In his spare time Coach Farquharson directs the Miss Shen Elite Softball Clinic in Clifton Park and is the Director for CAPTAIN's "Peace Camp" in the summer.  He and his wife Meg reside in Ballston Lake with their three daughters Mackenzie, Hailey and Quinn and son Colin.
